Furthering the Legacy of Excellence: UST Faculty of Engineering Celebrates Its Centennial Year
Last week was dedicated for the celebration of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Engineering 100th year of foundation. In lieu of this, numerous activities and events were held for both the studentry and the faculty.

"Furthuring the Legacy of Excellence" is the theme of the faculty's centennial year which started Monday, February 12, with a painting contest. Participants painted the islands in front of the Engineering building in relation with the theme. Also, a lot of students were present at school, though there are no classes held on Mondays, to prepare for their partake for next day's parade.

Our department, the Information and Computer Studies Department was assigned to create "higantes", or gigantic objects of some sort. One section constructed a giganic archetype of a male and female engineering students in their respective college uniform. Another made a giant pink pig. And ours was a huge Spongebob Square Pants. Our spongebob is so cute, other students took picture of it. Free food is also given for each student. =)

Wednesday was devoted for the college fair, it was also Valentine's day. I ditched school because I didn't feel like going, not that I'm bitter because I'm still single, I just didn't feel like going, really as in seriously.. seriously. Anyways, there were booths inside the building-- jail booth, dedication booth, song request booth and a couple more.

The bandfest was held Thursday evening at Elbow Room in Metrowalk, Ortigas. In attendance was me and a few of my classmates and friends. Our friends, Drive B, bagged the 1st place overshadowing 7 other bands. Nonetheless, the other bands also gave their best performance that night and they were simply incredible.

You will never know what lies beyond your professors' odd persona until you get the chance to see them perform for the annual faculty showdown. It was scheduled last Friday at the Medicine Auditorium and it was jampacked. Standing room only was the status of the auditorium. Seemingly, many students wanted to see what their professors are like when singing or dancing. Personally, I was there to poke fun at my professors. Come on, when was the last time you see old people dancing to the tune of pop music? This is sweet revenge. HAHAHA...

The group of IE, ChE and ME took the 1st place , the Engineering Science placed second while the group of ICS, ECE, and EE placed third.

Saturday was the last day and there were three events for the final stage of the celebration. Firstly, the Engineering Dance Troupe and One Voice, the official dance group and chorale of the college respectively, held a concierto at the Medicine Auditorium. Our class was there to support our classmate who is a member of the dance troupe. I din't enjoy the performance of the chorale because I'm not into that thing. Actually, it bores me to death.

Secondly, a mini concert "Total ENG-tertainment" was held at the sports complex. Bands like Urbandub, Dicta Licence and many others played for the Engineering student body. Lastly, a centennial alumni homecoming was held in the evening at the Le Pavillion in Roxas Blvd. I heard from my professor that it was successful. Many alumi attended to pay homage for the school that helped or still helping them become the successful person , or not, they are today.

Overall, the Faculty of Engineering centennial celecbration was a blast. I had fun and I assume most of the students too.The engineering student council did a good job (except for some tshirts which are still not given to students) and they should be given credit for making the engineering week worth celebrating.

And for the record, only one professor called in for class for the whole week. Just like in high school.. =)
